KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 5 — Actor Hugh Jackman has jokingly asked the Academy of Motion Picture, Arts, and Sciences not to nominate his friend Ryan Reynolds to avoid boosting the latter's ego.

In a video posted on his social media, Jackman said if Reynolds gets nominated in the best song category, it would make the next year of his life insufferable, Variety reported.

Reynolds has been shortlisted for best song for Good Afternoon, from his Christmas movie Spirited with Will Ferrell.

However, Jackman, who will be starring alongside Reynolds in the upcoming Deadpool sequel, hopes the Academy refrains from further boosting Reynolds’ ego with a nomination.

"I have to spend a year with him shooting Wolverine and Deadpool. Trust me, it would be impossible. It would be a problem.”

Before dropping the 'bombshell', Jackman had praised the movie at the start of the clip and said he loved it.

"I loved Spirited. It’s a great movie, the entire family watched it and had a blast. I love Will [Ferrell], I love Octavia [Spencer]... and ‘Good Afternoon,’ I laughed the entire way through. It is absolutely brilliant.”

He then went on to urge the academy not to validate Reynolds.

"But please, from the bottom of my heart, do not validate Ryan Reynolds [with an Oscar nomination].”

Responding to Jackman via his Twitter, Reynolds disagreed with the Australian.

"I think the deep fakes that sang and danced for Will and I would love to perform at the Oscars."

The two actors have been joking with each other on social media for years but the exchanges have increased recently following the announcement that they would be working together on the third instalment of Deadpool.
