LONDON, Jan 12 — Brighton-based band Fickle Friends is one of the first emerging acts to create buzz with a new track in 2014. The group's self-described “'80s new wave pop” can now be heard in a debut single that is racking up listens on Soundcloud.
Who?
Fickle Friends are a five-piece indie pop group made up of Natassja Shine (vocals), Sam Morris (drums), Harry Herrington (bass/vocals), Chris Hall (guitar) and Jack Wilson (synth/vocals). The group has been making music for nearly two years and counts chef Jamie Oliver among its fans, having won a competition to perform on the main stage at Oliver's Big Feastival last summer — although an official debut single just came out last week.
Why the buzz?
Shine's crystalline vocals, the group's bright, uplifting sound and the danceable new wave production by James Earp are attracting praise. When the Gramophone Rings writes of the band's new track, “'SWIM' makes you want to have a little dance in your chair, whether it's the first, or fifteenth time you've listened to it. It feels similar to the more upbeat songs by favourites The 1975, and Little Comets, with gorgeously dreamy female vocals.” HillyDillywrites, “Natassja Shine's vocals are as crisp and bright as they come, and if the beat doesn't brighten your day up even by a tiny —amount, then we don't know what will.”
What to listen to?
