KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained easier at mid-day today, dampened by selling in blue chips and heavyweights, a dealer said.
At 12.30pm the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBMKLCI) was 6.51 points lower at 1,690.8.
Regionally, Japan’s Nikkei 225 decreased 353.54 points to 16,745.86, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 221.35 points to 23,027.85, and Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite trimmed 100.28 points to 5,008.15.
On the scoreboard back home, the FBM Emas Index declined 44.36 points to 11,535.38, the FBMT100 Index lost 41.2 points to 11,315.42, the FBM 70 contracted 35.95 points to 12,419.18, and the FBM Ace slid 1.37 points to 5,142.21.
Sector-wise, the Finance Index was 221.38 points lower at 14,902.82, the Industrial Index rose 8.05 points to 3,083.76, and the Plantation Index declined 33.09 points to 7,502.49.
Turnover amounted to 834.63 million shares worth RM792.11 million.
Losers led gainers 516 to 247, while 262 counters were unchanged, 682 untraded and 16 others suspended.
Among heavyweights, Maybank fell 28 sen to RM8.32, TNB and Public Bank improved four sen to RM13.44 and RM17.70 respectively, and Axiata jumped three sen to RM6.91.
Of the actives, Sumatec day rose 1.5 sen to 18.5 sen, KNM Group advanced 2.5 sen to 44.5 sen and Bumi Armada perked five sen to RM1.06. — Bernama
