KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained in the red territory, with the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) 5.77 points easier at mid-morning.

As at 11.05 am, the benchmark index stood at 1,840.28 points, weighed down by heavyweight British American Tobacco, which fell 92 sen to RM69.68.

Market breadth was negative as losers outpaced gainers 408 to 188, while 313 counters were unchanged, 719 untraded and 14 others suspended.

Volume was high at 2.43 billion shares worth RM2.01 billion.   

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index slipped 72.98 points to 17,277.71 points, the Industrial Index fell 13.9 points to 3,189.02b points, the Plantation Index lost 56.35 points to 8,366.36 points and FBM Emas Shariah erased 27.95 points to 13,138.13 points.

The FBM Emas Index was 38.71 points lower at 12,885.67 points, the FBM 70 decreased 42.44 points to 14,251.25, the FBMT100 Index decreased 38.62 points to 12,463.96 points and the FBM ACE edged down 8.83 points to 7,287.41 points.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank and Axiata remained unchanged at RM10.04 and RM6.96, respectively, while Public Bank lost 10 sen to RM19.02 and CIMB eased 5.0 sen to RM7.01.

Among actives, Efficient E-Solutions and Iris Corporation fell half-a-sen each to 36 sen and 41.5 sen, respectively, while Talam Transform was up half-a-sen to 12 sen. — Bernama
