SANTIAGO, Sept 5 — Chile’s Ministry of Public Works announced on Wednesday plans to build a cable car system in northern Santiago connecting the Sanhattan financial centre and the new Ciudad Empresarial, the largest business park in Chile.

The US$76 million (RM271 million) project, dubbed Teleferico Bicentenario, will shorten the 45 minute trip to 12 minutes. The system, with 146 cable cars each each able to carry up to 10 people, is projected to transport 3,000 passengers per hour.

“The city needs projects that reduce pollution and ease traffic congestion,” metropolitan region head Claudio Orrego said in a BNamericas report.
