KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia continued the uptrend at mid-afternoon today, bolstered by gains seen in selected heavyweights and finance-linked counters, dealers said.

The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) firmed 7.87 points to 1,869.62 at 2.50pm.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index soared 75.79 points to 17,400.25, and the Industrial Index increased 8.89 points to 3,252.97. But the Plantation Index fell 12.61 points to 8,795.71.

The FBM Emas Index advanced 45.77 points to 13,095.54, the FBMT100 Index perked 45.87 points to 12,644.59, the FBM Ace increased 61.3 points to 7,340.94 and the FBM 70 gained 23.72 points to 14,389.1.

Market breadth was positive with gainers thumping losers 426 to 388, with 834 counters unchanged and 14 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 3.22 billion shares worth RM1.66 billion.

Among actives, PDZ Holdings gained 5.0 sen to 36.5 sen, Sumatec increased 2.0 sen to 61 sen and Talam added half-a-sen to 13.5 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank perked four sen to RM10.06, while Public Bank and TNB appreciated 10 sen each to RM19.34 and RM12.40 respectively. —  Bernama
