KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 — Stocks on Bursa Malaysia were mixed at the end of the morning session today, dampened by losses in selected heavyweights, dealers said.
At the midday break, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,872.85, down 1.75 points, after fluctuating in a tight range of between 1,872.09 and 1,876.59.
Astro Malaysia and British American Tobacco were the top two losing counters among heavyweight stocks, contributing 2.66 points to the decline in the benchmark index.
Astro Malaysia declined 16 sen or 4.35 per cent to RM3.52, while British American lost RM2.34 or 3.38 per cent to RM66.90 as the morning session ended.
On the scoreboard, the Finance Index rose 5.32 points to 17,183.82, the Plantation Index advanced 5.29 points to 9,165.67 and the Industrial Index gained 5.38 points for 3,220.41.
The FBM Emas Index was 3.18 points lower at 12,968.08, and the FBMT100 Index shed 3.63 points to 12,602.82.But the FBM 70 climbed 27.95 points to 14,097.34, and the FBM Ace improved 30.43 points to 6,727.53.
Advancers led decliners 347 to 326, while 351 counters were unchanged, 605 untraded and 17 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.12 billion shares worth RM789.63 million.
Among actives, 1Utopia and Luster Industries were flat at six sen and 11 sen respectively, Malaysia Airlines gained three sen to 25 sen, while Berjaya Corp earned half a sen to 52 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank rose one sen to RM9.82, TNB added four sen to RM11.76, while Public Bank and Axiata were flat at RM20.90 and RM6.88, respectively. — Bernama
