KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 ― Share prices on Bursa Malaysia were mixed on weak leads from Wall Street overnight following lacklustre economic reports, dealers said.
At 9.35am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 2.04 points to 1,875.91, after opening 2.8 point lower at 1,871.07.
The Dow fell 109.69 points to 16,734.19 and the S&P 500 dropped 13.78 points to 1,930.11 as the US Commerce Department reported that retail sales rose 0.3 per cent in May, less than analysts' estimates of 0.6 per cent.
“Wall Street's weak overnight performance muted investors' sentiment,” a dealer said.
Market breadth was negative as losers outpaced gainers 161 to 159, while 226 counters were unchanged, 1,080 untraded and 17 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 172.94 million shares worth RM102.69 million.
Of the early gainers, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia rose 36 sen to RM13.22, Kamdar added 16 sen to 82 sen and Pintaras Jaya increased 16 sen to RM4.33.
Among actives, Iris gained one sen to 42.5 sen, Konsortium Transnasional rose two sen to 30.5 sen and PUC Founder was flat at 18.5 sen.
For the heavyweights, Maybank fell one sen to RM9.83, Public Bank was flat at RM20.84 and Tenaga rose eight sen to RM11.74.
On the scoreboard, the Finance Index fell 2.93 points to 17,148.98, the Industrial Index lost 4.85 points to 3,186.33 and the Plantation Index rose 2.93 points to 9,240.83.
The FBM Emas Index was 4.3 points higher at 12,962.2, the FBMT100 Index added 7.04 points to 12,607.73, and the FBM Ace increased 27.03 points to 6,615.78, while the FBM 70 dropped 18.51 points to 14,041.15. ― Bernama
