KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 — The special constituency allocation is at the discretion of the Prime Minister, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said today, amid controversy over several PKR MPs losing access to the MyKhas portal.
Fahmi said the allocation was not a personal entitlement of MPs and that the Prime Minister had the prerogative to determine how the funds were channelled for the benefit of constituents.
“The special allocation is the Prime Minister’s allocation, so it’s up to him how to channel it.
“What’s important is that the money goes straight to the people and not the MP,” he said.
He was responding to questions about claims of a double standard after several PKR MPs, including Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, Subang MP Wong Chen and Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung, reportedly lost access to the MyKhas portal, which manages constituency development allocations.
The affected MPs had questioned the abrupt suspension of their access, while party leadership has defended the move as a consequence of political choices following their alignment with alternative political platforms.
Fahmi said there was an existing mechanism for assistance to be channelled to constituents through the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) when necessary.
“For those who need help, MyKhas is managed by the ICU. So if there is a need, it can be provided through the ICU.”
He said the mechanism announced by Anwar would see allocations for MPs managed through the Prime Minister’s political office.
Fahmi stressed that the purpose of the allocation was ultimately to ensure assistance reached people in the constituencies.
“So as announced by the PM, the mechanism is managed by the Prime Minister’s Office, so there is no issue arising from this,” said Fahmi.
“The money will then go directly to the people,” he added.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Internet Selamat forum with parent-teacher associations (PIBG) at Imbi Hall in Cheras today.
