PETALING JAYA, Aug 7 — PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang today confirmed that preliminary discussions have begun between Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) on seat allocations for the upcoming Melaka state election.
According to New Straits Times (NST), Hadi said the talks were at an early stage, with further negotiations expected in the weeks ahead.
“The Melaka state assembly has not been dissolved, but discussions, particularly on Malay Muslim unity, are ongoing. PN and BN are working to unite and save the Malays,” he was quoted as saying after Friday prayers in Marang.
He added that the negotiations would take into account the outcome of the last general election, when BN failed to secure any parliamentary seats in Melaka.
His remarks came in response to BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who recently stated the coalition’s intention to defend 21 of the 28 seats it currently holds in the state.
Separately, Hadi welcomed the inclusion of two PN assemblymen in the Negri Sembilan executive council under Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim.
