KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government will explain how it plans to tackle violence in schools tomorrow, as concerns heightened over the spate of violent incidents involving students.
“I have met the minister and a few people, tomorrow we will announce our decision,” he told reporters after addressing the 2025 Asean Energy Ministers Summit here.
Anwar suggested yesterday that he could instruct Cabinet ministers to consider strict regulation on social media use at the next weekly Cabinet meeting, as he blamed the series of violent incidents in schools on unchecked use of social media.
Earlier this week, the nation was shocked by the news of a deadly stabbing of a Form Four student, who was killed by a junior two years younger. The sixteen year old was found dead near the girls’ toilet at her school in Bandar Utama on Tuesday, reportedly due to unrequited feelings.
News of the stabbing came just days after four Form Five students were arrested for alleged gang rape of a Form Three student in Alor Gajah, Melaka.
And today, the police said four teenage boys were arrested in Baling for alleged sexual assault of a female student, Astro Awani reported.
Three of the suspects are students at a school in the Kedah district, while the fourth is a former student of the same school. The incident was allegedly recorded and shared on social media.
