MELAKA, March 9 — The state government has hinted at good news for 1,465 Al-Quran and Fardu Ain (Kafa) class teachers, with discussion on increasing their allowance now in the final stage.

State Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin said this is one of the state government’s efforts in looking after the welfare of the Kafa workforce as there may be Kafa teachers who feel that they are not getting what they deserve, especially those under the state government.

“I am not promising when but what is for sure is that (it will be) soon this year as many aspects have to be looked into because it involves financial matters and a relatively big budget.

“I am also trying to get the allowance to be given out monthly compared to a one-off payment,” he told a media conference after attending a ceremony to announce the results of the Kafa Class Assessment Test (UPKK) 2022, here, today.

He also said that the UPKK results this time showed a dip due to weaknesses in the home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) sessions during the movement control order period, adding that this was something they had expected and he was confident they would be able to obtain better results this year.

Meanwhile, Rais said that as an incentive for the success of teachers and students in the UPKK, the state government will award RM1,000 to the Best School, RM500 to the Best Student in the state and the Best Student in every district will get RM300 each.

In Melaka, a total of 8,143 students sat for the UPKK, which was held from November 29 to December 5, 2022. — Bernama
