KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 — In the 15th general election (GE15), Pakatan Harapan (PH) picked up the largest share of votes in six different states across Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.
According to research firm Politweet, the six states are Johor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Perak, and Selangor, while most of the remaining states gave the majority of their votes to Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Taking home 62.62 per cent (535,527) of the total votes cast in Kuala Lumpur's ballot boxes, PH won ten out of 11 seats they contested in — with only Khalid Abdul Samad losing against Barisan Nasional's (BN) Datuk Seri Johari Ghani by a slim 4,632 majority in Titiwangsa.
As for other states, it recorded Penang took home 59.99per cent of the total votes, Selangor (52.82pc), Negri Sembilan (44.80pc), Perak (44.15pc), Johor (42.26pc), and Melaka (38.69pc).
Meanwhile, PN drastically outperformed BN by bagging the most number of votes in Kedah (54.83pc), Kelantan (63.66pc), Perlis (54.15pc), Terengganu (62.38pc), and Putrajaya (43.67pc).
Unsurprisingly, BN only managed to win the competition in Pahang with a 0.47pc (38,515) difference from PN — bagging a total of five out of 14 parliamentary seats in the constituencies in Pahang.
PH emerged as the biggest coalition in Parliament with 82 seats but still fell short of the 112 needed to form a simple majority government, while PN managed to swing voters their way and secured 73 seats.
The BN coalition, which had pushed for national polls to be held this year ahead of the GE14 expiry next year, only garnered 30 seats.
