SINGAPORE, Aug 31 — Malaysians in Singapore serve as “unofficial ambassadors” in strengthening bilateral ties and as an important bridge connecting the two neighbouring countries, said Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore Datin Paduka Anizan Siti Hajjar Adnin.
Speaking at the Malaysian High Commission’s 2026 National Day parade in Singapore, she said Malaysians in the republic, including the thousands who cross the border daily for various purposes, play a particularly important role.
“Singapore is not merely a neighbouring country. Malaysia-Singapore relations are deeply rooted in history, geography, economics, culture and family ties.
“As Malaysians living in Singapore, we all have a very special position and role,” she said today.
According to Anizan, Malaysians in Singapore should continue to reflect the country’s best values through integrity, professionalism, courtesy, mutual respect and a willingness to help one another.
“Let us prove that wherever we are, Malaysians are always capable of making a positive contribution to the communities and countries in which we live,” she said.
She also urged younger Malaysians in Singapore to continue appreciating their cultural heritage and to uphold the Malay language as the national language that unites the nation.
“The Malaysia we aspire to build is one that is confident in its identity, open to the world, yet firmly rooted in its values and cultural heritage,” she added.
More than 70 staff members and family members of the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore took part in the 2026 National Day parade held at Rumah Malaysia. — Bernama
