KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 — Nursery operators in Sungai Buloh, who had been ordered to move to Bukit Changgang by this month, have been allowed to stay at their present location for one more year.

According to a report by The Star, Lee Chee Hong, president of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Landscaping and Nursery Operators Association, said that the operators were verbally informed of the decision by the Selangor Mentri Besar’s Office.

“The owners of over 60 lots here can now focus on ordering fresh stock before Chinese New Year.

“Business has been tough due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so we hope to be able to recoup our losses during this one-year period,” said Lee.

When asked about the owners’ response to the news, he said they were happy but want to see the official letter signed by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari himself.

Lee added that Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Sungai Buloh Datuk R. Ramanan had met with them on Monday and promised to hand over a letter highlighting their plight to Amirudin.

“I brought up the issue with Amirudin. We were then told that it would be a year before any relocation would take place and we could further discuss the matter later,” said Ramanan in a text message to The Star.

Earlier this year, 69 nursery owners who currently occupy Selangor Green Land were ordered to relocate to Bukit Changgang due to road expansion work nearby.

However, the owners claimed that the allocated sites in Bukit Changgang lack the infrastructure promised, such as electricity cables and water pipes. They also said the area is prone to flooding as it is low-lying.

Ramanan is currently in a seven-cornered fight for the Sungai Buloh seat on Saturday.

He will be facing Khairy Jamaluddin (BN-Umno), Mohd Ghazali Md Hamin (PN-PAS), Mohd Akmal Mohd Yusoff (GTA-Pejuang), Ahmad Jufliz Faiza (PRM), and two other independent candidates on November 19.
