PUTRAJAYA, Nov 11 — The Home Ministry (KDN) will only launch an investigation into the assets belonging to PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli if the need arises, said its caretaker minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Hamzah said as of now, the investigation will only be carried out by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“If one agency takes action, then let them do it first. We will only take action when necessary,” he said when asked by reporters if the police would investigate Rafizi regarding the declaration of his assets.
Yesterday, the media reported that the MACC would open an investigation paper on the asset declaration submitted by Rafizi.
Prior to that, a non-governmental organisation Pertubuhan Jalinan Perpaduan Negara had urged the MACC to investigate assets worth over RM18 million declared by Rafizi, who is also Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Pandan parliamentary seat.
Meanwhile, Hamzah said a total of 92 cases of election offences were reported nationwide as of yesterday, including under the Election Offences Act 1954, as well as the misuse of social media.
“We are investigating and will also look into offences under other Acts. We don’t want anything untoward to happen,” he said.
Earlier, Hamzah launched the Immigration Department’s electronic pass (ePASS), an online service that allows employers to self-print their employees’ Visitor’s Pass (Temporary Employment) stickers, at the department’s monthly assembly here. — Bernama
