BENTONG, Nov 5 — A damp morning at the Bentong Municipal Council hall here was livened up by the cheers of roughly 500 Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters at about 8.55am who were accompanying their 15th general election candidate Tan Sri Liow Tiong Lai.
The former MCA president was back to reclaim the Pahang parliamentary seat he had held for four straight terms since 1999 until he was defeated by activist Wong Tack who represented Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the 14th general election of 2018.
The cheer squads brought by PH and Perikatan Nasianal (PN) who had both arrived earlier, by 8.30am, paled in comparison at about 100 each.
PH is set to field former Ketari assemblyman Young Syefura Othman in the same parliamentary seat, while PN will be fielding Datuk Roslan Hassan.
Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), who will not be contesting the parliamentary seat here, but will be contesting an unconfirmed number of state seats here, brought about 20 supporters.
Incumbent Bentong MP Wong who previously proclaimed he would run as an independent after being dropped in favour of Young Syefura, was also sighted with a handful of supporters.
As the candidates moved inside the hall to sign their nomination papers, supporters stayed outside, conducting occasional cheers ― which were made louder whenever a vehicle bearing their chosen coalition’s flags passed by.
