HULU SELANGOR, May 29 — The proposal for working spouses to make a 2-per cent contribution for homemakers’ Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is not on top of their mandatory 11 per cent monthly payments, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail clarified today.

The deputy prime minister as well as women, family and community development minister explained that her proposal did not mean the contributing spouses would see an additional deduction to their salaries as speculated.

“We are not taking extras, we are taking from the 11 per cent,” said Dr Wan Azizah.

“Give due recognition to housewives, what's wrong with that?”

She also confirmed that her ministry would meet with EPF chief executive officer Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan at 3pm on Thursday to discuss the matter.

It is expected that in the meeting, the two parties will iron out the mechanism for the contribution, including those for polygamists and house husbands.
