KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 ― Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the man who once put Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in jail, became the first man to greet his former foe at the Istana Negara here.

Anwar is now a free man after the Agong granted the PKR leader a full Royal Pardon earlier today.

The press reported that Dr Mahathir had greeted and congratulated Anwar at the palace entrance.

Reporters were not allowed into the Palace but photos of Dr Mahathir shaking Anwar's hand quickly circulated as news that the latter had been granted a royal pardon made national headlines.

Dr Mahathir, who returned as the country's seventh prime minister after leading Pakatan Harapan to a stunning victory at the May 9 general election, was said to have shook Anwar's hand tightly before they whispered into each others' ears.
