SHAH ALAM, May 10 — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, today expressed disappointment over a viral social media message that he had attempted to influence the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the appointment of the new prime minister following yesterday’s general election.

The Ruler would like to remind the people not to easily believe fake news on the Internet or social media aimed at creating tension between the palace and the state or federal governments and undermining harmony among the people, said Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, the private secretary to the Sultan.

Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is scheduled to be sworn in as the seventh prime minister of Malaysia at Istana Negara today.

Dr Mahathir told a press conference today that Pakatan Harapan had secured the support of 135 MPs, including from Parti Warisan Sabah, to be eligible to form the new government.
