KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 — Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V has received letters from political party heads expressing support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to become the next prime minister, Istana Negara said today.

The palace also said that Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah was earlier there to deliver the complete results of the 14th general election, which Pakatan Harapan won with 113 seats.

“The two documents that were just received will be presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his consent to hold the swearing-in ceremony of the prime minister shortly,” the palace said in a statement.

Dr Mahathir earlier stressed the need to appoint him as prime minister urgently in order for the government to resume its full functions.

He had expected to be sworn in this morning, but the ceremony was delayed due to “confusion”.

This afternoon, Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar also pressed his Kelantan counterpart to waste no time in swearing in the prime minister, saying that the people have made their desires clear.
