ISKANDAR PUTERI, May 9 — A small commotion outside the Iskandar Puteri vote counting centre in Iskandar Puteri City Hall tonight threatened to get out of control here.

This followed a misunderstanding when a Proton Exora carrying ballot boxes was said to have taken the wrong route about 8pm.

A group of individuals near the site immediately tried to prevent the vehicle from entering the area near the hall, claiming the vehicle was ferrying ‘ghost’ ballot boxes and seized the car ignition keys from two men, including a presiding officer.

However, the timely arrival of policemen who were on duty nearby, defuse the tense situation.

North Johor Baru district police chief, Mohd Taib Ahamd confirmed the incident.

“Policemen, polling agents and counting agents generally, accompany the ballot boxes until they reach the counting point,” he noted. — Bernama
