SHAH ALAM, May 7 — Amanah’s Khalid Samad blamed rivals today for banners insulting the police and bearing his likeness that were placed outside the Selangor contingent police headquarters (IPK) during advance voting on Saturday.
He alleged the banners calling Malaysian police “dogs” near the gates of the contingent headquarters was a ploy to smear him and said he was confident that the agency’s personnel would not be deceived.
“I went early to observe the early voting process in IPK on Saturday, when I was told by the police about the banner.
“They themselves told me they were confident I was not the culprit and was not the one who placed them there,” he said during a press conference today, adding that he had also lodged a police report over the matter.
Khalid said he was informed that police were able to obtain fingerprints from the banners for use in their investigation.
He then criticised a Malay language paper for reporting on the banners and seeking responses from current and former police personnel, but omitting his response.
“They never included my denial that I was never involved in the placing of the banners, giving a blurred impression, whether the warning was aimed at me or towards someone else,” he said.
