KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 — The Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat is confirmed to be a three-way contest with Barisan Nasional (BN), PAS and PKR in the ring for GE14.

It had initially looked like a straight fight between BN and PAS this morning when the PKR candidate Datin Tan Yee Kew forgot to bring her MyKad to the nomination centre.

However, she was given a reprieve when the returning officer allowed her to use a photocopy of her identity card instead.

“I was grateful the officer had acted wisely to accept the photocopy of my IC to save time to do the verifications,” she told reporters after the EC confirmed the candidacy for the three parties.

Tan will be facing BN’s Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look and PAS’ Razali Tumiran on May 9.

Clarifying an earlier commotion of a mystery candidate who walked into the nomination centre just before the submissions for nomination forms closed, Tan said the surprise candidate, P. Ganapathy, was the backup plan should her registration process did not go through.

“But he did not need to submit his nomination as my photocopy IC was accepted. My husband had also met with my representative halfway from to pass me my original IC, which I received at 10am,” said Tan, who had left her MyKad at the photocopy machine back home in Subang Jaya.

“I made a copy of my IC last night and forget that I had left it there.”

Meanwhile, Yew and Razali had both filed an objection to the EC over the use of a photocopy of the document for the registration process.

However, both the BN and PAS candidates accepted the decision by the EC to accept the PKR nomination.

“To be a people’s representative, you need to follow the rules. But if you cannot follow this rule, then what does that say?” Razali quizzed the reporters.

“However, as an independent body, EC has the right to accept the nomination and we have to abide by it,” he added.

Wangsa Maju MCA chairman Yew, however, he will consult legal advice on the said matter.

“But my focus now would be to focus on winning the elections. I would also like to remind other individuals on the safekeeping of their IC,” he said.
