PUTATAN, Feb 12 — The Rural and Regional Development Ministry is allocating RM271.6 million for the implementation of the Housing Programme for the Hardcore Poor (PPRT) this year, which would benefit 16,547 households.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the project would involve construction of 608 new PPRT units and repair of 5,521 PPRT houses.

The allocation included RM65,998,800 for PPRT projects in Sabah, involving 252 new units at a cost of RM17,110,800 and 3,259 units for repair, involving cost of RM48,888,000, he told reporters after handing over the house key to three recipients of PPRT houses, each costing RM68,000, in Kampung Muhibah here.

Also present was the ministry’s secretary-general, Datuk Borhan Dolah.

Ismail Sabri said between 2014 and 2017, the ministry had built 3,936 new PPRT units and repaired 8,616 units, at a cost of RM321,492,000 and benefited 43,080 households.

“In terms of PPRT project, there is no abandoned projects, and the ministry has formed a joint committee with the Sabah government to discuss on the project implementation,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, Ismail Sabri said Sabah and Sarawak was allocated 52.7 per cent of the total development allocation for the ministry , with the remaining for the 11 states in the peninsula, and dismissed the claim by certain quarters that Sabah and Sarawak were left out by the federal government .

He said there would be many more projects to be implemented by the government for the benefit of the people and expressed the need for them to ensure the present government remained in power after the coming general election for smooth implementation of the projects.

“We have to ensure Sabah continues to be under the Barisan nasional (BN) government. if this can be done, we will give the best for the Sabah people,” he added. — Bernama
