KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has appointed controversial former chief judge Tun Zaki Mohamed Azmi and three others as honorary advisors to its chief commissioner.

The appointments of Zaki, who is also former Umno disciplinary board chairman, alongside former Dewan Negara president and Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd chairman Tan Sri Abu Zahar Nika Ujang, Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (Asli) director Tan Sri V. Ramon Navaratnam, and Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) deputy chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye will take effect on February 1 and end on January 31, 2020.

“These advisors are to give views and advice to the MACC chief commissioner regarding operations, prevention, education and others related to the execution of MACC’s activities, on the request of the MACC chief commissioner,” said MACC in a statement, referring to Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad.

“They also act as key communicators in bridging, with the MACC chief commissioner, concerns of the community on corruption issues and abuse of power in Malaysia.

“Additionally, they also play a role to communicate the aspirations of the MACC chief commissioner to the public, so that Malaysians will work together to fight corruption and abuse of power in this country,” the statement read.

Zaki previously courted controversy due to his indirect link to the now defunct RM2.42 billion Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) project.

Highway developer Kidex Sdn Bhd was owned by Emrail Sdn Bhd and Zabima Engineering Sdn Bhd.
