GEORGE TOWN, Dec 21 — Penang Gerakan chairman Teng Chang Yeow taped his mouth today in symbolic protest of a letter of demand from Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Teng, who is Penang Barisan Nasional chief, then posed for pictures with the tape affixed and handed out press statements along with face masks with X taped to it.

In his statement, Teng said he received a legal notice from Lim’s lawyers about three weeks ago.

“I view his legal demand as an intimidation to stop me from dishing out more truths on Pulau Jerejak.

“It is also intended to send a message to others especially the NGOs from raising public interest issues that they will also face the same legal action if the matters they raised are not to his liking,” he said in his statement.

Teng stressed that he will not be silenced by Lim’s legal demand and urged all non-governmental organisations to continue to speak out on issues of public importance.

Just before leaving, Teng relented to say, “Today it’s me, tomorrow it’s you (the media), the next day is the common people.”
