GUA MUSANG, July 11 — A lorry driver was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with reckless driving that resulted in the death of seven members of a family on July 4.

A. Deniyal, 24, claimed trial to the charge under Section 41(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and RM20,000 fine on conviction.

He is accused of committing the offence at Km12 Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai, at 1.20am on July 4.

The accident claimed the lives of Munira Ahmad Latfi, 29, her husband Norazmi Mahat, 37, and their one-month old son Rifqi and daughter Raidatul Syazwina aged 4.

Munira’s twin, Mursyida, 29, and her husband Mohammad Amin Firdaus Zakaria, 29, and their daughter Nurhana Jannati aged 5, also perished in the incident.

Magistrate Mohd Fariz Omar set RM6,000 as bail with two sureties, and Aug 15 for re-mention.

Insp G. Gopinath Govindan from the Gua Musang Police Headquarters’ Investigation and Legal Unit acted as prosecution officer while the accused was unrepresented. — Bernama
