KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 — Authorities will investigate if they receive reports of any wrongdoing uncovered in the so-called Panama Paper leaks, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said today.
The culture and tourism minister said, however, that it would be premature to investigate any individual simply for being implicated in the leak.
“If someone informed us that there are some Malaysians who are doing things that’s against our laws then, certainly (we will act).
“If they just simply write like that then I don’t think we can take any action. If people inform us that there is money laundering and all that certainly we can take action,” he told reporters outside the Dewan Rakyat today.
The Panama Papers information leak involves over 11.5 million confidential documents created by Panamanian corporate service provider Mossack Fonseca.
The documents provide detailed information on more than 214,000 offshore companies, the names of their shareholders as well as their directors, which included among them government leaders, their close associates and even close relatives.
Those named in the Panama Papers include individuals from Malaysia, Brazil, China, France, India, Pakistan, the UK, South Africa, Spain, Syria, Russia, Mexico, Argentina and Ukraine.
