KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 — The Barisan Nasional’s (BN) corruption allegation against Lim Guan Eng over the Penang chief minister’s house purchase is personally motivated, Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today.
The PKR president suggested that the accusations heaped on the DAP secretary-general were in response to the opposition lawmakers’ persistent questions over the BN federal administration’s handling of controversies including the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and a RM2.6 billion political donation.
“It looks like there such [personal] elements. It looks as if he’s targeted because if you look at whatever that is happening to RM2.6 billion or 1MDB, the moment you open your mouth or say something about that, either you are taken out or you are facing some problem,” the Permatang Pauh MP told a news conference here.
“They are trying to target him and it’s always the opposition that gets it,” she added, referring to Lim who is Bagan MP.
Dr Wan Azizah reiterated her call for accusations against Lim to cease pending investigation from the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC).
Last week, Umno MP for Tasek Gelugor Datuk Shabudin Yahaya linked Lim’s RM2.8 million-house purchase to the 2012 sale of Penang government-owned land to a private developer to build a specialist hospital.
