KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 ― Bersih 2.0 today praised the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for seeking a review of the Attorney-General’s decision to close the books on the RM2.6 billion donation and SRC International controversies but urged the agency to reveal its findings in the two corruption cases.
In a statement, the polls watchdog’s chairman Maria Chin Abdullah told the MACC that the public deserved to know the truth behind the controversies, adding that she was certain that Malaysians would stand by the agency.
“Bersih 2.0 would like to thank the MACC for its tireless pursuit of justice and truth in the RM2.6 billion donation case.
“Bersih 2.0 is confident that the MACC carried out its investigation carefully. But the time has come for it to reveal its findings to the public.
“Malaysians have a right to know the truth and only the MACC can reveal this,” Chin said.
She also told the agency that an opportunity like this only comes once.
“Do it now, before it is too late,” she said.
It was reported earlier that MACC plans to appeal AG Tan Sri Apandi Ali's decision to close the cases on SRC International and the transfer of RM2.6 billion to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s private accounts.
The anti-graft agency said in a statement today that it will refer the AG’s instructions to its Operations Review Panel (PPO) for review.
Apandi yesterday cleared Najib of any wrongdoing in the transfers amounting RM2.6 billion and RM42 million respectively, and ordered MACC to close the case files.
He also said that RM 2.03 billion was returned by Najib to the Saudi royal family in August 2013.
