JOHOR BARU, Dec 27 — Sixty people were detained while a Vietnamese girl was rescued during two anti-vice raids carried out in Muar last night.

Johor CID Chief, SAC Kamarul Zaman Mamat said in the operations to check vice activities, prostitution and human trafficking, a bistro in Jalan Susur Tengah 1, Taman Kampung Tengah and a cafe in Jalan Mulia, both located in Sungai Abong, Muar were raided.

“Fifty-three Vietnamese women, three Thai women, three local men and a local woman, all aged between 18 and 29 years were detained.

“Meanwhile, a 15-year-old Vietnamese girl was rescued under the Anti Trafficking In Persons and Anti Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007,” he said in a statement here today.

Kamarul Zaman said two of the local men detained were believed to have committed offences under Section 12 of ATIPSOM 2007, namely trafficking in of under-aged women.

“All the local people detained were remanded for four days beginning today while the foreigners detained would be remanded under the Immigration Act for 14 days,” he said.

Meanwhile, the underaged victim was being placed in a protection home while investigation was being carried out, he added. — Bernama
