BENTONG, Nov 14 ― The section of Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway which was closed following a mudslide on Wednesday has been reopened in stages from 2pm today.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said in the first stage, the highway will be opened on one lane in each direction for traffic flow to resume on the highway.
“The contra flow route will start from KM52.4 to KM50. The highway will be back to normal with two lanes in each direction at 2 pm tomorrow,” he said in a statement here today.
The highway was reopened two hours after the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, visited the incident site here today.
Fadillah said the delay in reopening the highway was due to resurfacing work at the affected segment by highway concession company, Anih Berhad.
At the same time, highway users are advised to follow the signboards and directions provided by the authorities.
“Motorists are advised to be careful when passing through the contra flow section,” he said.
The landslide near Lentang-Bukit Tinggi at 6.30pm on Wednesday caused a section of the highway to be impassable to traffic.
In the incident, three private vehicles and a lorry were stranded in the area, but all the vehicles' occupants managed to run to safety.
The mudslide also caused 25 occupants of the Pahang Forestry Department quarters to be evacuated to the Lentang Mosque. ― Bernama
