KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — The Facebook page of Chinese vernacular newspaper Oriental Daily has been compromised by unknown individuals who are using it to post links to pornographic material.

According to the daily’s e-news editor, Lum Chih Feng, their Facebook page that has over 800,000 followers was taken over this afternoon.

“We found out about 1pm. So far nine posts till now, it is still going on,” he told Malay Mail Online when contacted.

Among other posts on the page are links to articles about pornographic actresses.

Lum added the newspaper is trying to contact Facebook to rectify the issue and find those responsible for taking over the page.

It is unclear how the attacker or attackers gained control of Oriental’s account.

“We are also looking at stopping all the unnecessary posts being posted up,” he said.

Last week, the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club website was also compromised by hackers, who claimed that it was done to stop the site from spreading government propaganda.
