KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — Albeit the sky was hazy, it was not a big deal to the base jumpers of the 2015 Kuala Lumpur Tower International Jump Malaysia (2015 KLTIJM).
A local skydiving instructor, Haziq Azlan, 27, who has more than 200 base jumps under his belt, said the hazy air did not bother him as the meaningful experience was all that really mattered.
“Haze or no haze does not make any difference to me. The panorama of the Kuala Lumpur skyline is still looking great!,” he told Bernama.
Haziq was among 120 highly trained jumpers who took the challenge to jump from a crane installed at the tower today. They jumped from a height of 312 metres.
The event that started today ends on Sunday.
Meanwhile, a jumper from Sydney, Australia, Tahi-Paul Munroe, 29, said even though the sky was not too clear for him to take photographs, it was not a big issue to him at all.
“Even though I could not capture the moment during the jump clearly, I still had so much fun!,” he said enthusiastically.
Munroe who has done 208 base jumps described the jumping moment as awesome and that he was looking forward to participate in this event again next time.
The same excitement was shared by a tandem skydiving instructor from the United States, Cynthia Currie, 32, who has done 10,000 parachute jumps and 330 base jumps.
“Despite the haze kind of taking the clear sight of mine, it is not a big deal for me and the city’s view is still wonderful. I love it!” she said.
The 2015 KLTIJM, which entered its 15th year, is showcasing the exciting and hair-raising acts from expert jumpers around the world including France, Denmark, Finland and Japan.
At 421m, the Kuala Lumpur Tower is the seventh tallest telecommunication tower in the world and the tallest in South East Asia. The base jump was first organised to celebrate Menara Kuala Lumpur’s (Kuala Lumpur Tower’s) first anniversary on Oct 3, 1999.
Since then, it has become an annual event for Menara Kuala Lumpur and has been listed in the Malaysia Book of Records for conducting the first base jump event in Malaysia. — Bernama
