KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — A 22-year-old man has been detained in connection with the murder of DPP Anthony Kevin Morais, raising to five the number of suspects held so far.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Zainuddin Ahmad said the man was arrested at about 5 pm yesterday in Kulim, Kedah.
“The suspect is unemployed. We have remanded him for seven days from today. So far, five suspects have been detained for questioning,” he said in a statement here today.
Zainuddin also said that police urged the public to come forward with information relating to a road accident along Jalan Duta Mas, off Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur, on Sept 4.
He said the police wanted the driver or passengers of a white Estima multi-purpose vehicle which stopped at the accident scene, as shown in a video recording of the stretch of road, to contact the police.
“The accident occurred at 7.51 am and is believed to have been connected to the abduction of Morais. The public can contact any police station or the Kuala Lumpur Police hotline at 03-21159999,” he said.
Morais’ body was found in a concrete-filled drum in Subang Jaya early yesterday after one of the suspects brought the police to a location near the Klang River at Persiaran Subang Mewah in the USJ1 housing estate.
Morais, 55, who was the deputy chief of the Appellate and Trial Division in the Attorney-General’s Chambers, was reported missing on Sept 4.
He was last seen leaving his home at Menara Duta, Kuala Lumpur, on Sept 4 to drive to his office in Putrajaya in a grey Proton Perdana car bearing registration number WA6264Q. — Bernama
