KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — Student activists have decided to continue the #OccupyParliament sit-in that was interrupted last night by police arrests, although 17 from the initial batch of protesters are still under lock-and-key at the Jinjang district police headquarters here.

The group’s co-coordinator Mohamad Luqman Nul Haqim from Universiti Malaya said the students will continue their protest outside the Parliament building.

“Our friends who were arrested told us to continue this fight, we are not afraid,” he told reporters outside the Jinjang police lock-up.

The 17 picked up from outside Parliament last night during their sit-in to pressure Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign from office were earlier today issued three-day remand orders for an investigation under Section 124(B) of the Penal Code for disrupting parliamentary processes, as well as a probe for an alleged breach of the Peaceful Assembly Act.

Mohamad Luqman insisted tonight, however, that despite the arrests, the protest must continue as none of the students’ demands have been met.

“It’s been more than 70 hours since we started the protest and there are still no answers… so we will continue occupying Parliament until our demands are met.

“This fight will not stop even if there is only two or three of us left,” he said.

About five police cars came flying minutes after the student activists arrived from Jinjang to the area outside the Parliament for the #OccupyParliament sit-in, August 26, 2015.

Minutes after some 15 students arrived outside Parliament, however, about five police cars suddenly pulled up with personnel demanding that the students clear out.

The cars blocked the entrance of the road to Parliament and less than an hour later, the students were told to leave the area although they were at least 500 metres from the entryway.

One police officer told the Malay Mail Online that he was only carrying out “orders from above”.

The students later said they will head back to Jinjang for the night.
