JOHOR BARU, July 1 ― Commuters travelling by taxi from Johor to Singapore today faced problems when they were turned away by drivers due to not having the adequate permits to enter the island republic.
According to daily news portal The Star, the taxi service has been halted since midnight.
The newspaper also mentioned that Singapore’s Land Transport Authority has already renewed and sent the permits to the Land Transport Commission (SPAD) in Johor. SPAD, however, is yet to receive the permits.
Due to the delay, taxi drivers are unable to renew their road tax in Singapore.
A Singaporean man, when met at the taxi station, said he was disappointed about the matter as he travels across the Causeway by taxi to work.
The taxis’ Singapore road tax expired on Monday.
