SHAH ALAM, June 10 — The publication of more articles and quality research are among key factors that lifted the ranking of Malaysia’s public universities in Asia.
Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the number of articles published by Malaysian public universities surpassed those by universities in Singapore and Thailand.
“We can see fundamental improvement (in the QS Asian University Rankings 2015) as there is a rise in the number of articles and the quality of research by our universities,” he said after opening ‘Karyaone’ organised by the Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation, University Teknologi Mara (UiTM), here, today.
Yesterday, Idris announced that four research universities in Malaysia had improved their ranking in the QS University Rankings Asia 2015.
Universiti Malaya rose to 29 from 32 last year, Universiti Sains Malaysia (from 57 to 49), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (from 66 to 61) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (from 76 to 66).
Idris said the increasing number of foreign students also contributed to the improved ranking.
Malaysia is home to some 107,000 foreign students of whom 27,000 are post- graduate students.
UiTM is the pioneer for ‘Program CEO Industri dan IPT’ whereby industry captains give lectures to university students.
The programme was inspired by the Malaysian Education Blueprint (2015-2025) (Higher Education). — Bernama
