KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak commended today the late Lee Kuan Yew’s achievements following the Singapore founding father’s death early this morning at age 91.
Najib offered his condolences to Lee’s family and Singaporeans for the demise of the republic’s first prime minister who had been hospitalised since last month for severe pneumonia.
“Founding Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s achievements were great, and his legacy is assured,” Najib wrote on his Facebook page.
“@Lee Hsien Loong I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your father. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. On behalf of all Malaysians, my deepest condolences to the people of Singapore,” he added.
Lee was the longest-serving head of government in Asia who transformed Singapore from a backwater to one of the world’s richest nations in just three decades.
