KOTA KINABALU, Feb 10 — State police have issued an arrest warrant for a woman known as “Doris Jones” who is allegedly behind the Sabah Sarawak Keluar Malaysia (SSKM) secessionist movement.
State Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the person was promoting seditious activities through social media platforms, including a Facebook page called SSKM.
“The warrant has been issued some time ago, almost a month now,” he told Malay Mail Online.
According to the warrant dated January 16 shown to the media, the wanted person is one Doris Yapp Kim Young, 45, with a last known address in Labuan.
She is being sought for investigation under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.
At a press conference here today, Jalaluddin said police are watching all entry points in the country for her.
Despite the warrant, however, Jalaluddin said the police did not know her exact whereabouts, only that she may be somewhere in Europe.
He was also unsure if Yapp was still a Malaysian citizen as she has been living abroad for many years.
In her social media profile, “Doris Jones” claimed to be a Sabahan living in the United Kingdom and working in the legal profession.
She further claimed to be running the SSKM movement using social media platforms to keep in touch with her followers and other like-minded non-governmental organisations. The Facebook page in question has over 31,000 “Likes”.
Jalaluddin also said that police have set up a special task force to investigate seditious discourse and SSKM on Facebook and other social media.
“Each week we meet, a total of 126 investigation papers have been opened over the postings. We have forwarded them to the Deputy (Public) Prosecutor,’’ he said, adding that police were taking the secessionist movement seriously.
Last Sunday, five activists were arrested in Lahad Datu on Sunday for allegedly promotion SSKM activities. They were released today on a bail of RM2,000 each after investigations.
