KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 — A dispute on payment due to Johns Hopkins University by Perdana University Graduate School of Medicine (Perdana University) was the reason the two institutions called off their collaboration, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said as an agreement could not be reached by both parties on the matter, Johns Hopkins University decided to discontinue its collaboration with Perdana University effective July 31.
"The collaboration agreement between Perdana University and Johns Hopkins University was made on a business-to-business arrangement," he said in a written reply to a question by Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut) in Dewan Rakyat today.
Lim had wanted to know the reason why Johns Hopkins University terminated the contract with Perdana University, the latest status on the matter, number of students involved and was there any legal action taken against or by Johns Hopkins University.
Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said there are 79 students at Perdana University, 77 sponsored by the Public Service Department via the 2011, 2012 and 2013 intakes.
He said the other two were international students on private sponsorship.
As of last year, Muhyiddin said a total of RM32.69 million had been spent on the students and to date there was no legal action taken against or by John Hopkins University. — Bernama
