JOHOR BARU, Sept 27 — An elderly woman was found dead, believed to have been smothered with a pillow, in a double-storey house at Jalan Cermat 2, Taman Pelangi here, early today.

Johor Baru Selatan district police chief ACP Sulaiman Salleh said the victim, a 72-year-old Indonesian citizen with a Singaporean permanent resident (PR) status, was believed to be at the house to collect the monthly rental from the tenants.

“The two-storey terrace house with seven rooms belongs to her son, who married a local woman.

“Her (victim) role was to collect the rent,” he added.

Following the incident, Sulaiman said police formed a special team to track down a tenant of the house.

The man, aged 37, was found hiding in a hotel here at 6am today, he added.

Sulaiman said the suspect, who had three previous records, was found in possession of a penknife and 46 Eramin 5 pills.

He also tested positive for drug, he added. — Bernama
