KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — The Education Ministry should accept the existing UPSR test papers submitted by students instead of a re-sit, which would put undue pressure on students, a parent group said today.

The Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia (PAGE) said the standard operating procedure (SOP) in dealing with examination leaks has a significant flaw in that it disregards the circumstances and vulnerability of primary school children.

“It shows a lack of compassion on the part of the Ministry of Education in not looking deeper into the effects, stress and unnecessary pressure forced into these young minds,” said PAGE chairman Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim.

“After all, they will proceed to Form 1 regardless of their performance. Excellent results in UPSR will mainly benefit only some who are looking to go into boarding schools or controlled schools and classes. Even so, some of these schools have their own admission tests,” she added at a news conference.
