KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 ― Seems like the holidays for over 470,000 Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) candidates are a distant dream, as they are now required to resit the Mathematics and Tamil papers on October 9, after it was confirmed to have been leaked.

Following this, the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate (MES) has cancelled UPSR mathematics papers code: 015/1, 025/1, 035/1 and Tamil language papers code 036 and 037, after pupils had already sat for both the papers on September 10.

Education director-general Datuk Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof said that the new date was fixed after taking into consideration the Hari Raya Aidiladha holiday, and logistics pertaining to reprinting and distribution works..

“The ministry would like to stress here that the re-examinations are being done to ensure that the  standard operating procedures pertaining to public examinations are are not compromised, in addition to warrantying the credibility and integrity of the UPSR results,” Khair said in a statement today.

Apologising for the incident, Khair said that he had also instructed all headmasters and teachers to provide counseling for students who need it  .

“I will also be monitoring the entire examinations conducting system done by MES, since the first paper leak out incident which was reported on September 12.

“As an immediate step, I will be changing the officers at MES to strengthen the administration of public examinations and will also tighten all security aspects in MES, right down to the examination centres,” Khair said, guaranteeing that similar incident will not be repeated.

The Star Online yesterday reported that MES had lodged two police reports, alleging that the Tamil and mathematics papers were leaked.
