SHAH ALAM, Sept 23 — A Muay Thai (tomoi) boxing coach and a trader were each sentenced to eight years’ jail by the High Court, here, after pleading guilty to abducting an unemployed man and leaving him nude on the DUKE Highway, near Setiawangsa, last year.

Judge Datuk Akhtar Tahir in his judgment said the prosecution failed to produce proof to show Mohd Mazli Sazeli, 27, and Agus Hariyanto Mahmod Hosen, 28, had requested a ransom from the victim, Ng Mun Tatt, or his family.

Instead, Akhtar said, the evidence presented in court was that the victim was abducted because he insulted Islam.

The judge ordered both accused to start serving their sentences from the date of their arrest, which was July 16, last year.

Meanwhile, two of their colleagues, Mohamed Asri Mohamad Jamil, 23, a technician and Zulkarnain Abdul Rahmad, 30, a building maintenance worker, were acquitted of the kidnapping charge.

Akhtar said there was no proof to link them to the charge and there were significant discrepancies between the evidence of the victim and other witnesses.

Mohd Mazli and Agus Hariyanto were accused of abducting the unemployed man at Restoran Muneer, No.1, Jalan Merdu 25/119, Seksyen 25, Taman Sri Muda, here, at 4.30am, on July 15, last year.

Lawyer Ahmad Zaidi Zainal represented all the accused, while the prosecution was conducted by DPP Iswa Tonie. — Bernama
