MALACCA, Sept 12 — The police have arrested a man to facilitate investigations into the knife attack on a Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) student during a robbery at the Dimensi Apartments, Lendu here on Wednesday.
The man, believed to be the main suspect in the attack on Siti Irina Ridzwan, 20, was picked up about 10pm yesterday, from a hotel in Kampung Pantai here.
Melaka Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said the arrest of the suspect, also 20, followed the detention of two men and a woman at several locations in Alor Gajah, about four hours earlier.
“The four, who are jobless, have been remanded for seven days, beginning today, to shed light on the attack on the diploma in mass communications student who was stabbed six times during the robbery.
“At the time of the arrests, all four suspects, aged between 20 and 40, tested positive for the drug, methamphetamine,” he told Bernama when contacted here today.
In the 5.30am incident, Siti Irina was stabbed several times by a knife-wielding robber at her apartment unit when she screamed and tried to fight back.
She was warded at the Melaka Hospital for stab wounds in the hands and abdomen.
Meanwhile, Malacca UiTM Rector, Associate Professor Dr Mohd Adnan Hashim said Siti Irina was in a stable condition and was expected to be discharged from the hospital in a few days.
He said the semester-five student was due to sit for her final semester examinations on Sept 23.
“UiTM has provided a guest house in Lendu for Siti Irina and her family, apart from making arrangements for her to sit for the examinations,” he said after visiting Siti Irina, together with Umno Education Bureau head, Tan Sri Ibrahim Abu Shah at the hospital. — Bernama
