KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 ― Tan Sri Abu Kassim said today the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has “classified” complaints lodged against embattled Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim for action but declined further comment on the status of investigations.

The head commissioner only reiterated that the federal anti-graft body will look into the complaints “without fear and favour”.

“We have classified the case,” Abu Kassim told reporters when asked about the status of investigations at a press briefing on MACC's 2012 annual report at Parliament here.

“As I have said before it is our job to investigate all complaints. Anybody who complains, we will investigate. We will classify it first then we will investigate,” he said.

MACC deputy chief commissioner of operations Datuk Seri Shukri Abdull later told reporters that it has received the complaint and is now working to determine if there were grounds on which to initiate a graft investigation.

Shukri also refused to elaborate, merely saying that he cannot divulge details in light of the ongoing Selangor mentri besar crisis.

“We need to find the grounds before executing further action and that is all I can say. This is a political case and we at the MACC do not want to be embroiled in it,” he said.

Khalid’s party colleagues have implied that the MACC might be partial in its investigations against the mentri besar whom they linked to a “fixer” associated with political foe Umno, to clear his RM66 million debt with Bank Islam.

The allegation was highlighted in a PKR-prepared dossier explaining why the Pakatan Rakyat party wants to remove Khalid from his post.

Khalid denied the allegations and insisted that he would continue to serve as MB.

Immediately after the report was made public, Khalid’s aides submitted the report to the MACC in a preemptive move to show the 67-year-old is innocent.

PKR eventually sacked him on Saturday but he has remain defiant, saying he would remain as MB with command of popular support in the state legislative assembly with the endorsement of the Selangor Ruler.

The impasse have pushed the country's richest state in a crisis.
