SEREMBAN, June 27 — A 40-year-old woman appeared before the Sessions Court here today on two charges of wilful negligence of her special-needs teenage son.
Lolanopita Sadi from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, claimed trial to committing the offences on Muhammad Firdaus Dullah, 15, at Taman Semarak flat in Nilai, between January and June 21.
She is accused on the first charge of abandoning the victim as to cause him physical and emotional trauma, under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a fine of up to RM20,000 or 10 years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.
She is accused on the second charge of neglect by leaving the victim without reasonable supervision, under Section 33(c) of the same Act, which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or two years’ jail or both upon conviction.
Judge Datuk Jagjit Singh Bant Singh set bail at RM7,000 with one surety, and July 24 for re mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh appeared for the prosecution while counsel Hanif Hassan represented the accused.
Muhammad Firdaus was found in a pathetic condition in a room at the Taman Semarak Phase 2 flat recently by Negeri Sembilan Immigration director Faizal Fazri Othman during an integrated operation.
The victim is now under rehabilitation at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital, Seremban. — Bernama
