GEORGE TOWN, June 17 — The Sessions Court here today fixed September 4 for hearing of the abduction and child trafficking case of a seven-month-old baby girl.

Clerk Zuzita Ahmad, 43, and shop assistant Ooi Hooi Ling, 37, were accused of abducting the baby under the care of her grandmother, Faridah Hussain, 53, at a flat in Lorong Lembah Ria 1, Happy Valley Park, Air Itam here at 3.30pm on December 12.

The offence under Section 363 of the Penal Code carries a maximum seven-year jail term and a fine, if convicted.

They were also accused of child trafficking of the baby for the purpose of exploitation at a longhouse surau, Tanjong Tokong here at 5pm on the same day.

The offence under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Immigrants Act 2007, carries a maximum 20 years’ jail sentence and a fine, if convicted.

Zuzita and Ooi were represented by counsel Sukhindarpal Singh while deputy public prosecutor Lim Cheah Yit prosecuted in the proceedings before judge Zulhasmi Abdullah. — Bernama
